Music is one of the important ways we work to provide a spiritual environment to those who gather to celebrate the love of God through worship. The choral program at Christ Church has many singing opportunities for all ages – starting with Kindergarten students all the way through to adults!
Kindergarten to 5th graders participate in our Cherub & Chorister choir; Middle School students sing in the King George Choir; High School students through adults are welcome to sing in our Parish Choir, as well as our 8:45 worship leaders group.
All music rehearsals are held on the first floor of the Youth and Music building, directly across the street from the front of the church.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
Christ Church’s Children’s Choir gives children a unique experience, reaps lifelong rewards and offers your child rich experiences in music, worship, and personal growth. Spiritually, your child will learn about God and worship through song and participate as a worship leader. Musically, your child will develop music literacy and music appreciation, and develop his/her singing voice. Personally, your child will experience the joy of musical expression and the satisfaction of attaining musical goals, as well as become an important member of a unique “team”.
8:45 Worship Leaders
Rehearsals: Wednesday, 5:15.m. – 6:00p.m.
On Wednesday evenings a group of musicians meet in the music room with our King George Choir to rehearse for our Sunday, 8:45a.m. Eucharist. This service is accompanied by piano, acoustic guitar and bass guitar. The choir is casual and you don’t have to commit to singing every Sunday. New singers are always welcome. If you play an instrument and are interested in joining the ensemble, please contact David Leahey. The instrumentalists currently rehearse at 5:00p.m before the choir join at 5:30.p.m.
Rehearsals: Wednesday, 7:30p.m. – 9:00p.m.
The Parish Choir’s chief purpose is to lead the liturgy every Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. service from September through May. This choir also sings the services of Advent Lessons and Carols, Choral Evensong, and other Holy Day liturgies throughout the church year. Repertoire is drawn from a diverse collection of sources including chant, Renaissance motets, spirituals, and 19th- and 20th-century choral music. The Parish Choir attends an annual retreat in the fall held at Trinity Center in Salter Path.
The Howard Carillon
The church tower holds a carillon of 27 bells, the gift of a former parishioner, Dr. Albert Howard, honoring his wife, Joyce. The carillon reached its present state in 1996. The bells, cast at the Paccard Foundry in Annecy, France, strike the hours and quarters and can be played from the organ console.
Want to join? New members for any of the choirs are welcome at any time during the year! It is not necessary to read music. All of our musical groups are volunteer organizations and no auditions are necessary. For more information contact David Leahey at firstname.lastname@example.org
