Paul was ordained to the transitional diaconate in 2009 in Washington, DC, and to the priesthood here at Christ Church on April 19, 2010. A native of Knoxville, TN, he earned his Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, in 2009, and a BA in English and Religious Studies from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. He is currently working on his Doctor of Ministry in Preaching at The University of the South, Sewanee. Prior to coming to Christ Church, Paul served as Director of Youth Ministries at St. George’s Church in Germantown, TN, Interim Director of Youth Ministires at St. John’s Church in Ellicott City, MD, and as Deputy for Youth Ministries at the Diocese of Washington. Paul has coordinated conferences for Kanuga Conferences and Province III and IV of the Episcopal Church, and served as keynote speaker for several retreats. In the Diocese of East Carolina, Paul currently serves on the Standing Committee, Trinity Center Board of Managers, Clergy Conference Planning Team, the Christian Formation Committee, and the Title IV Disciplinary Committee. Previously, he served as the chair of the communications team for the Bishop Transition Committee in 2013-14 and on the Commission on Ministry. He and his wife, Emily Gowdy, have two children, Ollie and Ada Ruth.
The Rev. Deacon Lisa Kirby

Lisa was ordained to the vocational diaconate June 20, 2015. As a permanent deacon Lisa’s primary ministry is to those affected by alcoholism and addiction—working to assist churches in formulating a response to those who suffer. She is National President of Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church. Lisa received a Bachelor’s degree in religion from Salem College in Winston Salem, NC, attended graduate school in Sociology at Wake Forest University and received a Master’s Degree from Providence Theological School. She is currently working on her Doctor of Theology at Providence. She has served as Junior and Senior Warden, a Verger, and a variety of lay ministries associated with liturgy. She has done retreats for vestries and for women in recovery. Lisa has an adult son, Jonathan.
